Jack Dorsey | Success story of Twitter
Jack Dorsey is a co-founder and CEO of twitter. Microblogging services was officially launched for public on 15 July 2006.
Jack Patrick Dorsey was born on November 19, 1976 in St. Louis, Missouri,USA. His father Tim Dorsey worked for a company that developed mass spectrometers and his mother Marcia Dorsey was a homemaker.
He studied from Catholic Bishop DuBourg High School. He worked occasionally as fashion model during his younger days. He was also interested in Dispatch Routing.
When he was 14 years old, he wrote a few programs for taxi dispatching and firefighting services. Some of the open source softwares are still being used by taxicab companies in the area of dispatch logistics.
Before transferring to New York University, he attended the university of Missouri–Rolla for two-plus years(1995-97). But he dropped out in 1999 before one semester of completing graduation.
Dorsey moved to California(in 2000) when he was working on dispatching as a programmer. He started his company in Oakland to dispatch couriers, taxis, and emergency services from the Web.
For several years Dorsey worked on creating software for taxi and ambulance cars, and played a crucial role in the promotion of the new project of Greg Kidd called dNet.com.
Later Dorsey was hired by Odeo company, which specialized in the Internet startups. Company was headed by Evan Williams who had worked with Sergey Brin at Google in 2006. During these days
Jack came up with an idea of service that would allow users to share their minds online. He made first step into exploration of simple SMS service.
It took Dorsey and his friend two weeks to write a code and to come up with a name Twitter and the blue bird logo. Jack Dorsey first twitted that “just setting up my twttr”.Public version was appeared in July. When twitter was launched Americans were used to say that twitter is nonsense. Even Evan Williams said that it is useless.
When Odeo ran out of money, Fred Wilson helped financially to survive tweeter as a separate company. Despite of the tough schedule, he always found enough time for a piece of advice to focus on smallest detail of twitter. Fred also supported twitter for a successful management. Popularity of twitter increased when company's employees started installing multiple screens displaying real time messages. Just after a year of launch billionth messages were sent through twitter(in May 2008). The U.S. State Department even invited Jack Dorsey to come to Iraq in order to teach local Prime Minister how to tweet.
Thinking of multiplying his wealth, Evan Williams persuaded the board of Twitter to shift Jack Dorsey from his position. In October 2008 Jack was moved from it position and Evan williams took his place. In 2010 Evann williams could not handle the post and he resigned from the post passing it to another top manager of Twitter Inc. – Dick Costolo. He decided to return Dorsey to the position of executive chairman.
On June 10, 2015 Dick Costolo announced that he was resigning as CEO of twitter. On October 05, 2015, Jack Dorsey was assigned as the permanent CEO of Twitter. Now Jack Dorsey is a CEO of two companies Twitter and Square.
